The 5 T’s of Mosquito Control

The huge mosquito population is a common source of complaints among residents in Western Suffolk and Northern Nassau Counties. As a result, our technicians at Mosquito Squad strive to educate consumers about mosquito control. Just because you’re not a professional doesn’t mean you can’t become an expert at mosquito control. Here at Mosquito Squad, we’ve formulated the 5 T’s of mosquito control to help you control the mosquito population around your home.

1 TIP

All mosquitoes require fresh water in order to lay eggs and reproduce. Therefore, you want to remove all sources of standing water around your home to eliminate mosquitoes from around your homes. Unfortunately, this can be more difficult than you might think. Mosquitoes are able to take advantage of even the smallest bodies of standing water to breed.

If you have children, you want to check the toys, sandboxes, and wagons in your backyard and front yard for standing water. In fact, you should keep these items out of your yard to avoid the accumulation of water when it rains. You should also check any plant saucers, dog bowls, and tires you have on your property for standing water. Other hot spots for the breeding of mosquitoes include flat roofs, tarps and gutters.

2 TOSS

In order to prevent ticks from infesting your property, you need to keep your yard and garden as clear from debris as possible. Some examples of yard debris that you should toss as soon as possible include firewood, grass clippings, and leaves. Yard debris can create shady and cool places for ticks.

3 TURN OVER

There are many items that you have no choice but to keep in your yard, such as sand buckets and toy wagons. Especially before a storm, you should flip over the items in your backyard to prevent them from holding water. If you have a bird bath, you should maintain it regularly to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes.

4 REMOVE TARPS

If you have sports equipment, boats, or firewood piles in your yard, you probably have tarps in place to protect them. Ensure that you take the time to tighten the tarps regularly to prevent them from accumulating water.

5 TREAT

The best prevention and protection for mosquito control is an elimination barrier treatment, which works by killing all mosquitoes that attempt to invade your yard. Our team of personnel here at the Mosquito Squad of Western Suffolk have the skill and expertise to achieve maximum effectiveness
